The intense quality of silence as we sit,

sun streaming over the frosty lawn

into our cave-like room, is like an absence.

In this timeless space, 2 people, 2 dogs

are each engaged in an inner world, connected

throu psychic ties no longer demanding speech.

In each head who is to say what clatter

runs, but the enveloping calm quiets

each one’s busy schemes for the duration.
